A Southwest Missouri native, Matthew attended Missouri State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government. He then attended Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska, where he won several awards for trial advocacy. After graduating from law school, Matthew returned to Springfield, MO where he started with the Greene County Prosecutors Office.
Matthew worked in the major crimes division while at the prosecutor's office, trying many felony cases, thus enhancing his trial skills. It is this experience that enhances his understanding of both criminal and family law and trial work. He prosecuted every kind of crime under Missouri Law, with hundreds of trials and hearings worth of experience. This gives him an inside understanding of the criminal law and how to get the best possible result for your case. He understands what prosecutors and police look for in a case and how to combat their case.
After nine years of working in the prosecutor's office, Matthew decided to make a change to further assist those in the Southwest Missouri and started The Law Offices of Matthew Russell, where he practices primarily family, criminal and estate planning. He is committed to ensuring that the legal system works for those he represents, and his commitment to families was a key driver in his decision to begin his own legal practice.
Matthew is also involved with many organizations around the Springfield area, including Leadership Springfield Board of Directors where he serves as the current director. Leadership Springfield is an organization that focuses on indentifying community leaders and familiarizing them with community opportunities, needs, problems and resources.
Continually showing his commitment to the practice of law and ensuring the legal system is working, Matthew has served on the CASP Board in Springfield, MO. This group allows those who are charged with minor crimes to pay for their community service versus jail time. His dedication to families lead him to serve with the Violence Free Families of Springfield, where he helped families in need understand their legal rights.
"I have a unique perspective on how the legal system works, and I use this everyday to do what is best for my clients, their families and their future. I try to help them find a solution everyone can live with, but if that option is not available, I can put my courtroom experience to work."
